Staying at the TLH Leisure Resort, Torquay
Monday 8th - Friday 12th March 2019
This morning we travel towards the West Country for our 5-day break at the Derwent Hotel in Torquay. Torquay is a traditional British seaside resort in the very heart of the English Riviera on the South Devon Coast.
We have a morning excursion to Brixham today. Brixham is a picturesque fishing town built on a limestone outcrop at the southern end of the Torbay coastline. The bustling harbour provides moorings for the local fishing boats plus yachts and pleasure craft. The town, with its colour washed houses, is built around the harbour and offers craft shop, cafes and galleries plus a local fish market. After a pleasant morning in this delightful resort we head back toward Torquay making a stop at Paignton en-route. Paignton has a long, beautiful beachfront, promenade, traditional pier and shops all in close proximity. We have some time here before returning to the hotel.
Our excursion today takes us to Newton Abbot to explore the markets. We then make the short journey to Bovey Tracey for a visitor attraction like no other, The House of Glass. Based on a working historic site of pottery making. A working glasswork, interesting museum, marble runs and a fully licensed restaurant. We will be back in Torquay late afternoon.
A day at leisure to enjoy this part of The English Riviera.
We leave Torquay this morning to begin our homeward journey. Our lunch stop will be at the Sanders Garden Centre near Weston Super Mare. The centre has, in addition to the usual garden products, a good restaurant and a variety of other shopping opportunities. We arrive home late afternoon.
