This Cruise travels along three of the mighty rivers of Europe taking in some of the most picturesque regions of Austria and Germany. The river cruise starts in the Imperial City of Vienna and visits the most historic towns and cities before arriving in France and Strasbourg. We will be sailing the Danube, Main and Rhine rivers.
Following an early departure we make our way to Dover for the short sea crossing to Calais. From Calais we travel to the Globales Post Hotel for our first overnight stay at Liege.
From Liege we travel into Germany for dinner and an overnight stay at the Hotel Ibis, Regensburg.
From Regensburg we continue on to Vienna for a mid-afternoon embarkation on our cruise ship. After check in enjoy a welcome cocktail and introduction to the ships crew before dinner on board and setting sail.
We have a leisurely morning sailing. Explore at leisure or join an optional guided city tour before dinner on board. Passau is the oldest city in Bavaria; it's on the Austrian border and situated on the confluence of 3 rivers, the Danube, Inn and Ilz. It is known for its baroque architecture and St Stephens Cathedral in the city houses the worlds largest church organ with 18000 pipes.
We sail into Bavaria today and arrive in the early afternoon at Regensburg. This well preserved medieval city has been described as the most Italian city north of the Alps. It has a twelfth century stone bridge with sixteen arches which crosses the river to the old town. As well as sightseeing the city has a good mixture of shops, cafes and restaurants. We have dinner on board ship this evening followed by entertainment.
Sailing through the night we arrive early morning in the historic city of Nuremberg. This interesting city has many museums, Gothic buildings and an old town which can be explored at leisure or you may opt for an optional guided tour. Whilst out and about try the gingerbread, which is a local delicacy. Return to the ship for dinner and on board entertainment.
Our ship makes a stop for an optional excursion to the picturesque town of Rothenburg ob der Towber, considered one of the highlights along the Romantic Road. The best preserved, walled town in Germany known for its medieval architecture, half timbered houses and cobblestone lanes. Also home to St Jakobs church which houses a glorious 500 year old altarpiece, Germany's greatest piece of woodcarving. One of the best towns to shop for souvenirs or presents, prints, carving or wine glasses etc. Rejoin the ship and cruise to Wurzburg.
Enjoy an optional tour of Würzburg this morning or stay on board and cruise to Wertheim via Karlstadt. Würzburg is known for its lavish baroque and Rococo architecture and is also the centre of Franconian wine country with its distinctive bottles with flattened round shapes.
The ship makes a stop in Mittenberg today known as 'The Pearl of the Main'. This is another beautiful town with half timbered houses and cobble stone streets. There are a great variety of shops and cafes here. We rejoin the ship and in the afternoon cruise towards Aschaffenburg.
We arrive in Frankfurt this morning where an optional guided tour is available or just explore at leisure. During the afternoon we cruise to Mainz where the Main and Rhine rivers meet. We have a gala dinner on board this evening.
Enjoy entertainment and activities on board this morning before cruising on to Strasbourg. we arrive mid afternoon for disembarkation., leaving for our overnight stay at the Mercure Reims Cathedral Hotel.
We leave Reims this morning and make our way to Calais for our return channel crossing. Once in Dover we rejoin our coach for the homeward journey, arriving during the evening.
