Lazing Along the Llangollen Canal
Staying at the Bryn Howel Hotel, Llangollen
Monday 25th - Friday 29th March 2019
Our travel this morning will take us in a north westerly direction. We pass Shrewsbury and Oswestry making a lunch stop en-route to our hotel at Llangollen.
This morning we visit the Llangollen Motor Museum, where there are countless vintage vehicles displayed in an imaginative and nostalgic style. We then have time for lunch at the Wharf tea rooms before enjoying a very relaxing 2-hour canal boat trip to see the Horseshoe Falls, a manmade marvel created by Thomas Telford. We can also admire the Chain Bridge across the River Dee whilst gliding along possibly the most beautiful length of canal that you will ever experience.
Today we make our way to Llangollen station to board the Llangollen Railway which is primarily a steam hauled heritage railway. Our journey begins by the Dee River Bridge in Llangollen town centre and continues for 11 miles upstream to the village of Corwen. Here there are wonderful views of the River Dee and Berwyn Mountains. We can enjoy some time here before taking a return train back to Llangollen in time for dinner.
After breakfast we travel to the mighty medieval fortress of Chirk Castle. Built on an outcrop above the meeting point of the River Dee and Ceiriog. Explore the fascinating, lavishly furnished rooms that reveal 400 years of changing tastes and fashion. It is possible to take lunch in the historic kitchen before wandering through 5 acres of stunning gardens with superb views over the Cheshire and Salop plains. We return to the hotel in time for dinner.
We leave the Bryn Howel Hotel this morning and make our homeward journey with a lunch stop en-route.
