Isle of Wight
Staying at The Royal Esplanade Hotel, Ryde
Monday 27th - Friday 31st May 2019
We make our way, this morning, to Portsmouth for the short ferry crossing to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight. From Fishbourne we journey to Ryde and the Royal Esplanade Hotel for our 4-night stay.
We have the morning at leisure before visiting the Rosemary Vineyard, one of the largest producers of English wine, liqueurs, juices and ciders. Here we will have lunch and a wine tour with wine tasting before returning to the hotel.
Our excursion today takes us to the south and west of the island with our first stop in Godshill. Godshill has charming thatched cottages, a model village, gift shops and tea rooms. Then on to Brightstone and a visit to Isle of Wight Pearl. Our last visit of the day will be to Alum Bay, famous for its multi coloured cliffs, cliff chair lift and outstanding views of the needles and lighthouse.
We have a morning visit to Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s island retreat, here are the lavishly furnished state rooms plus glorious grounds and gardens. Later we have a trip on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Vintage steam locomotives pull Victorian and Edwardian carriages through the island’s unspoilt countryside.
We leave Ryde after breakfast today and return to Portsmouth via the ferry. From Portsmouth we continue our homeward journey arriving early evening.
