Snowdonia - A Natural Beauty
Staying at: The Celtic Royal Hotel, Caernarfon
Thursday 20th - Monday 24th August
We board our coach this morning and make our way to Caernarfon for our 4 night holiday at the Celtic Royal Hotel.
This morning we travel over the Menai Bridge to the Isle of Anglesey to visit one of North Wales best kept secrets, the hidden world of Plas Cadnant Gardens. We enjoy these stunning gardens before making our way to Beaumaris with its medieval castle, lovely beach and Victorian Pier. We have a relaxing treat this afternoon by way of a 90 minute boat cruise to Puffin Island.
Today we have some time to explore Caernarfon with its castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, before taking the scenic drive to Betws-y-Coed, North Wales' most popular inland resort. We have time at leisure here before visiting the Trefriw Woollen Mills where traditional products are made using machines powered by a vintage water turbine. We continue our scenic drive back to Caernarfon via Llanberis.
A ride on the Welsh Highland Railway is the highlight of our excursion today. This is the UK’s longest heritage railway which runs for 25 miles from Caernarfon, past the foot of Snowdonia and the pretty village of Beddgelert through the stunning Aberglaslyn Pass and on to Portmerion. Portmerion is the famous Italian style village. It is in a beautiful setting with lovely beaches and superb coastal walks. There are sub tropical gardens and a land train through the woodlands as well as shops and cafes. After time is this interesting location we return to our hotel.
We leave Caernarfon this morning and make our homeward journey. We make a lunch stop en route and arrive home early evening.
