Brighton Up Your Week
Staying at: The Old Ship Hotel, Brighton
Monday 3rd - Friday 7th August 2020
Our journey this morning takes us to Brighton, in the southeast of the country, and our hotel for our 4 night stay.
We have included an excursion to Leonardslee Gardens and Lakes today. First planted in 1801 the Grade I Listed gardens are described as the finest woodland garden in England. Famous for its woodland planting, rock gardens a dolls house museum and a rare colony of wallabies.
This morning we take a steam train journey from Sheffield Park To East Grinstead on the Bluebell Railway. This is the UK’s first preserved, standard gauge passenger railway. This afternoon we spend in Brighton where we have free time to explore the 'Lanes'. The Lanes is a multitude of independent shops, galleries and restaurants. Alternatively you could visit the Royal Pavilion, a must see for any visitor. The Royal Pavilion was built as a seaside retreat for Prince George, Prince of Wales. He later became Prince Regent in 1811.
We spend the morning on a relaxing 90 minute cruise on the Wey and Arun Canal. Embarking at Loxwood we cruise along the idyllic Loxwood Link section of the canal. Following our relaxing cruise we journey to Arundel for a visit to Arundel Castle. Set high on a hill with magnificent views this medieval castle was largely remodelled and restored between 1870 and 1890. The castle houses fantastic furniture, beautiful tapestries and a collection of rare paintings.
We leave Brighton this morning and make our homeward journey with a comfort stop en route.
