Grand Cumbrian Journey
Staying at: Cumbria Grand Hotel, Grange-over-Sands
Monday 19th - Friday 23rd October 2020
We board our coach this morning and make our way to Grange-over-Sands in Cumbria. The Cumbria Grand Hotel is set in 20 acres of grounds and overlooks Morecambe Bay. It is a short walk from the beach and the centre of Grange-over-Sands.
This morning starts with a return journey on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Steam Railway. The journey takes us from the coastal village of Ravenglass to the very heart of the Lake District, Dalegarth. At Dalegarth we have a short break before our return journey. We rejoin our coach at Ravenglass and make the short journey to Muncaster Castle with its gardens and Hawk and Owl Centre. We have plenty of time here to explore this haunted castle and its grounds.
Our excursion today takes us to Morecambe. We make a stop en route at the famous Carnforth Station Heritage Centre which has been restore to its 1940‘s glory. Part of the station was used in the film 'Brief Encounter'. We have time in Morecambe before visiting the impressive Leighton Hall with its gardens and parklands for a guided tour and afternoon tea.
Another super steam train journey today on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway which takes us to the tip of Lake Windermere and the Lakeside Pier. We then board our boat for a 40 minute cruise around the south of Lake Windermere. We arrive at Bowness with time to explore this lakeside town before returning to the hotel.
We leave Grange-over-Sands this morning and make our way home. With refreshment stop en route we arrive home early evening.
