Kent - A Great Tour is Brewing!
Staying at: Mercure Maidstone Great Danes Hotel, Maidstone
Monday 25th - Friday 29th May 2020
Our journey today takes us across the country to Kent for a 4 night stay.
Our first planned excursion is to Leeds Castle and Gardens. Henry VIII used this Norman stronghold as a residence for his first wife, Catherine of Aragon. We will have time to take lunch (not included) in the lakeside restaurant before taking time to explore and enjoy the remarkably picturesque grounds.
Shepherd Neame Brewery at Faversham is our destination today for a tour and tasting. The Faversham Brewery is home to Shepherd Neame, Britains oldest brewer. It has been located here for Centuries and using natural ingredients such as local hops and water it produces Kentish ale bursting with flavour and internationally renowned lagers. After our visit to Shepherd Neame we complete our day with a visit to Canterbury.
The tour, today, takes us to The Historic Dockyard at Chatham. From the Spanish Armada to the Falklands crisis it was here that warships were built, repaired and manned for 400 years. We can explore at leisure. After the Dockyard we can spend time in the nearby town of Rochester. A beautifully preserved town where the Dickens legacy is evident at every turn.
We leave Kent this morning to make our return journey with a refreshment stop en route. We arrive home late afternoon.
