Day 1
Following an early start we travel to Dover to join our ferry for the short sea crossing to Calais, on arrival we rejoin our coach and travel through France to Belgium for our overnight stay at the NH Hotel, Genk.
Day 2
After breakfast we travel across the border into Germany, and our overnight at the NH Hotel Magdeburg.
Day 3
This morning we travel east through Germany and cross over the border into Poland. We continue to the beautiful old city of Wroclaw for our 2 night stay at the Hotel Park Plaza.
Day 4
Today we have a full day to explore Wroclaw, one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Poland. It was initially established on one of the islands formed by the many channels of the River Odra. Now as the city of 12 islands and 112 bridges, it is known as the “Polish Venice”. The first settlements appeared in the 7th Century on what was later known as Cathedral Island (Ostrow Tumski) and since then Wroclaw has developed into an important regional city. Today see some of the cities many sites including the university, the impressive gothic cathedral and old town squares.
Day 5
This morning we leave Wroclaw, stopping en-route at Auschwitz. All over the world it has become a symbol of terror, genocide and the Holocaust. It was established by the Nazis in 1940, in the suburbs of the city of Oswiecim. This, like many other parts of Poland, was occupied by the Germans during the Second World War. The name of the city of Oswiecim was changed to Auschwitz, which became the name of the camp as well. To date over 25,000,000 from all over the world have visited the Museum and Memorial. The visit, or pilgrimage is understandably harrowing but it is one many wish to make but please note that it is recommended that children under 14 years do not visit Auschwitz. We continue our journey to Zakopane for our 4 night stay at the Hotel Litwor.
Day 6
Today we have at leisure in Zakopane, Poland’s best known mountain resort, Zakopane is a popular winter and summer destination. It lies surrounded by mountains in Poland’s Tatra National Park. In addition to offering a stunning location with fine mountain views and many marked walking paths, the town has a pretty centre with a selection of shops, cafes and restaurants.
Day 7
Today we have a full day Dunajec Valley and Tatra Mountains excursion, during which we pass through countless small towns and villages and there will be many opportunities for photo stops.
Day 8
Today we travel to Krakow, the former Polish Capital and a renowned city of culture. The city has many beautiful buildings, pavement cafes and squares. Having been the capital of Poland until 1596, this amazing city is the third most populated city of Poland. Located on the Vistula River, its magnificent old architecture prompted UNESCO to include Krakow on the list of Cultural World Heritage, Krakow has had a turbulent past but has now developed into one of the main scientific and cultural centres of the country. The historic centre is situated at the foot of the Royal Wawel Castle, during your day see Europe’s largest market square and numerous historical houses, palaces and churches.
Day 9
Unfortunately today we leave Poland and travel back into Germany for our overnight stay at the Hotel Heideschanze, Dresden.
Day 10
Today we travel homewards back through Germany and into Belgium for our final night at the NH Hotel, Genk.
Day 11
Today we leave Belgium and travel into France and onto Calais for our return ferry crossing to Dover, where we rejoin our coach and head for home arriving during the evening.
