CARDIGAN BAY
Staying at the Cliff Hotel, near Cardigan
Monday 10th – Friday 14th May 2010
5 Days
Day 1
Following a morning departure we travel through the Brecon Beacons National Park and on to West Wales. Here we spend four nights at the Cliff Head Hotel and Spa. The hotel is situated high up on a headland overlooking Cardigan Bay surrounded by the Pembrokeshire Heritage coastline.
Day 2 - 4
During our stay here we have included various excursions. These include a morning visit to the market town of Cardigan, once a major port on the River Teifi. A medieval seven arched bridge spans the river and the Castle ruins date from 1176. We return during the afternoon for complimentary tea and biscuits. We have a day to the popular holiday resort of Aberaeron and on to Aberystwyth where the town is fronted by a grand Victorian promenade. The ruined castle, which dates from 1277, crowns a rocky headland and on the seafront is the Neo-Gothic University College of Wales. The National Library of Wales here holds many Celtic manuscripts. We also visit the town of Fishguard, where the last invasion of Britain took place in 1797, then we continue to Haverfordwest. From the 15th- 19th centuries this county town of Pembrokeshire was a busy port. The 12th century castle has fine views over the Cleddan Valley.
Day 5
After breakfast we commence the homeward journey and will make a stop at the lovely town of Brecon before we continue towards home arriving during the afternoon.
